Barcode labels (EAN code)
Bar coding (EAN code) has become an efficient and accepted means for labelling or product identification. The codes are constantly updated.
The printing quality of bar codes is decided by capability of the system - the checking criteria are constituted by our own stringent ISO / IEC-standards.
Glücksband also checks the quality of the printing results throughout the ongoing manufacturing. For this purpose, a bar code check-machine is used with a special indicator for the control of the printing quality of the labels.
It is therefore ensured that the printed bar codes continuosly correspond to the predetermined quality categories.
The bar code labels can also be arranged and effected completely according to your ideas and requirements.
In general, there are two different interpretation methods for the qualitative analysis of an EAN-code: "CEN" (international norm) and "Ansi" (American norm), adapted to all types of codes.
In order to check the parameters of an EAN-code, both methods can be additionally combined with a "traditional method", with which the column widths and the clearances are assessed.
Glücksband checks EAN-codes with the inspection method combination of CEN + TRAD: a full inspection of all parameters according to the latest norms. For this purpose, a laser interpretation-machine with appropriate printer is adopted for inspection sheets. Contrary to normal bar code scanners, not only is the code read out, but a detailed analysis is also carried out regarding the specifications for EAN-codes.
In our experience, two different qualities must be decided between, depending upon the effort and purpose of the creation:
"premium":
- material: normally a smooth polyester satin
- design: often with company logo of the client
- partial company logo preprinted, inscription bar code then follows in the thermal transfer print
"discount":
- mostly printed on reasonably priced, coated nylon
- bar code either one-sided or double sided, often with labelling and care instructions combined on the same label
Important criteria with the design of bar code labels are the size of the bar codes (the bigger, the more readable; simply using defined enlargement factors) and a sufficient distance from the bar code to the label edge and the surrounding script.
